It includes a wide range of high level indicators and profiles across the patient journey.

The types of data available include:

Incidence; Mortality; Survival; Smoking Cessation; Peer Review; Screening; Referrals; Waiting Times; Radiotherapy; National Audit; Cancer medicines; Place of death; Programme Budgeting.

Profiles now include:

PCT and GP practice level data, Routes to Diagnosis, Hospital Episode Statistics (HES). The data within the Toolkit aims to assist Commissioners to identify patterns of care that can contribute to saving lives, give options regarding services ensuring value for money and share information to help improve patient experience.

The CCT has been developed by the NHS National Cancer Action Team (NCAT) and NCIN in association with the Pharmaceutical Oncology Initiative Partnership (POIP).

The POIP is a partnership between the NCAT and a group of pharmaceutical companies who research, develop and supply innovative cancer medicines. The POIP was set up in 2005 to identify opportunities to collaborate on projects to benefit cancer patients by improving access to cancer medicines. Previous work by the POIP includes the Chemotherapy Planning Oncology Resource Tool (C-PORT).

NCAT and the POIP selected the management consulting firm A.T. Kearney to assist with the design, scope and functionality of the CCT. The analytics and tool development company Concentra were selected by NCAT to detail the design, develop, and ensure the successful roll-out of the web-based toolkit.
