Cancer Service Profiles

The Cancer Service Profiles for breast and colorectal bring together a range of outcomes and process information relevant to cancer in secondary care. They provide comparative information for benchmarking and reviewing variations at a Acute Trust or MDT level. This initiative supports the National Awareness and Early Diagnosis Initiative to improve early diagnosis of cancer and outcomes for cancer patients.

Access to the profiles

Access is currently available through the Cancer Commissioning Toolkit. Anyone accessing these profiles is required to comply with conditions of access and data sharing. In the spirit of the Health White Paper, the vision is for these profiles to be shared publically. However, as this the first time they have been developed we want to test their validity, acceptance and uptake by commissioners and secondary care first. Therefore, access initially will only be for those within the NHS and Primary Care.

Help and data sources

A guidance document describing how to use the Service Profiles and a full description of the data and methods used to produce the breast indicators and colorectal indicators have been published to support users.

Feedback

This is the first time such an initiative has been undertaken nationally for cancer, and we will welcome comments and suggestions as to how to make future versions and iterations more relevant and useful for those who will use them. Please email service.profiles@ncin.org.uk with your feedback or questions.
